Italian Immigration to America
Whether or not you are connected to the di Tota, Pietrunti, Orsatti, or another Italian immigrant family, we'll do our best to help you understand the basics of researching your connection to your own Italian immigrant arrivals in America. You're probably already familiar with Ellis Island, but did you know you can search passenger arrivals through Ellis Island for FREE via the Internet?
Ellis Island Passenger Arrival Database On April 17, 2001, The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation in cooperation with the National Park Service (Dept. of the Interior), and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons) launched a project which changed the world for many family history enthusiasts, especially those researching Italian immigration records. That was the day www.ellisisland.org gave millions of researchers worldwide the chance to search passenger arrival records from the comfort of their home and with an electronic index.

Using the search form above, you can directly search for your Italian ancestors who came to America during what is called the 'Golden Age of Immigration' — the period from 1892 to 1924. In 1924, restrictions were placed on immigration which dramatically reduced the number of arrivals. In the coming weeks, we'll post more information here specific to Italian immigration, but for now, enjoy the FREE search capabilities provided by The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. If you choose to purchase something on their web site, you do so knowing that your purchase or contribution helps this nonprofit continue their work to preserve the American immigrant experience for future generations.
